The international Caving 2026 conference, that brings together experts to discuss innovations and technologies in underground mining, was held in Ulaanbaatar from August 11–13.

Over the 3-day conference, 90 main and breakout sessions ranalongside an exhibition where companies from around the world showcased the latest technologies, equipment and services shaping the future of block caving. On the final day, more than 50 international experts visited Oyu Tolgoi to see first-hand the mine’s practices in block caving, safety and innovation.

Delegates toured Oyu Tolgoi’s underground management and remote operating centres, gaining insight into mining operations, drilling, tunnel ground support and workplace safety practices. International experts highlighted Oyu Tolgoi as a leading example of underground mining and praised the expertise, skills and collaboration of Mongolian engineers and technical specialists.

Beyond showcasing Oyu Tolgoi’s capabilities, Caving 2026 strengthened Mongolia’s position on the global caving map, providing a platform for international knowledge-sharing on underground mining technology, safety and sustainable production.
